As schools across Karnataka resumed on Monday following the summer vacation, students in Bengaluru were seen wearing masks and following Covid-19 safety protocols amid a recent surge in cases. Schools across the state reported that students, teachers, and staff were following precautionary measures, including wearing masks and maintaining physical distancing. Even parents who accompanied their children on the first day of school were seen following safety measures by wearing masks.

Karnataka Schools Prioritize Covid-19 Safety and Mask Use on Reopening

Students in many Bengaluru schools followed Covid-19 safety guidelines by standing in queues and maintaining physical distance at the entrance. Staff members were also checking students’ body temperatures before they entered the premises. Considering the current Covid-19 situation and the reopening of schools, the karnataka government issued a circular on Friday advising parents to keep children at home if they show symptoms such as fever, cough, cold, or any other signs of illness.

The Health and Family Welfare Commissioner issued a circular detailing safety measures for government and private schools to follow. This follows the Covid-19 review meeting held on May 26, chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.

The circular advises parents to send their children to school only after they fully recover from any illness. Schools must notify parents and send children home if they show symptoms like fever, cough, or cold. Similarly, schools should ask teachers and non-teaching staff with such symptoms to take necessary precautions. The circular also urges everyone to maintain preventive practices such as washing hands regularly, following proper cough etiquette, and adhering to other Covid-19 appropriate behaviours.
