Supreme Court Orders Removal of Stray Dogs From Public Places
The Supreme Court directed authorities to remove stray dogs from schools, hospitals, bus stands, sports complexes, and railway stations within eight weeks. The bench instructed officials to shift all dogs to shelters instead of releasing them back to their original locations. Justices Vikram Nath, Sandeep Mehta, and NV Anjaria issued the order while monitoring increasing stray dog-bite cases in a suo motu proceeding. The court also placed the amicus curiae’s report on record as part of its final order.

States Must Enforce Strict Dogs Removal Guidelines
The Supreme Court told state governments, municipal bodies, and transport authorities to enforce strict measures for removing stray animals from busy public areas. It directed officials to rehabilitate the collected dogs in shelters and prevent their return to public places. Authorities must coordinate with local agencies to ensure shelters can accommodate the additional animals. The order aims to improve public safety by reducing dog-related incidents.
Court Directs Removal of Cattle From Highways
The court upheld the Rajasthan High Court’s order requiring officials to remove stray cattle from national highways and expressways. It instructed state chief secretaries to ensure strict compliance with the directive and warned them against any negligence. The bench also ordered the installation of helpline numbers on all national highways for reporting stray cattle. These steps aim to reduce animal-related accidents and improve road safety across the country.
