Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has announced a new welfare proposal for women ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. During a press conference, he introduced the ‘Stree Samman Samriddhi Yojana’. The SP has promised to provide Rs 40,000 every year to women if the party forms the government. Akhilesh also said that the financial assistance would increase each year. The announcement comes as political parties step up their preparations for the upcoming polls.
SP Announces Rs 40,000 Annual Aid For Women
The Samajwadi Party has positioned the proposed scheme as an initiative aimed at improving the financial condition and prosperity of women in Uttar Pradesh. Several women leaders from the party discussed women-related issues with Akhilesh and Dimple Yadav before the announcement. SP MPs Iqra Hasan and Priya Saroj also attended the press conference. Dimple Yadav said the ‘A’ in the party’s PDA slogan represents half of the population, referring to women. She added that the party plans to announce more initiatives focused on women in the coming months.
Akhilesh Yadav said that the development of Uttar Pradesh cannot remain complete without the progress of women. The party has presented the annual financial assistance as part of its broader focus on women’s welfare. The announcement comes at a time when political parties are preparing their strategies for the 2027 Assembly elections. The SP is seeking to strengthen its support among women voters through welfare-focused promises. The proposed scheme could become an important part of the party’s election campaign.

SP Prepares Strategy For 2027 UP Elections
The Samajwadi Party has remained out of power in Uttar Pradesh since 2017, when the BJP secured a decisive victory. Although the SP increased its seat tally in the 2022 Assembly elections, it failed to return to power. The party, however, delivered a strong performance in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections by winning 37 seats in Uttar Pradesh. The result established the SP as the single-largest party in the state in the parliamentary polls. Akhilesh Yadav is now looking to build on that momentum ahead of the 2027 Assembly contest.
The SP is expected to raise several key issues during the upcoming election campaign, including unemployment and alleged paper leaks. The party has also criticised the government over various other issues and is likely to continue highlighting them during its campaign. The possibility of the SP contesting the 2027 polls alongside Congress could further shape the opposition strategy. With the election approaching, welfare promises and women-focused initiatives are expected to remain significant political talking points. The ‘Stree Samman Samriddhi Yojana’ is likely to be a key part of the SP’s outreach to women voters.
