    Union Minister Nitin Gadkari called the opposition to the E20 petrol rollout a “paid political campaign.” He emphasized that all testing agencies confirmed there are no issues with implementing E20 fuel across India. Gadkari urged the Finance Minister to offer GST relief for consumers scrapping old vehicles to buy new ones. He stressed that this move would boost car sales and support cleaner fuel adoption nationwide.

    At the 65th SIAM Annual Convention, Gadkari praised automakers for adopting BSIV to BSVI emission norms efficiently. He encouraged the industry to speed up biofuel vehicle production to reduce pollution levels. Gadkari assured continuous government support aligning India with global emission and efficiency standards like CAFE. He projected India’s logistics costs to drop to 9% of GDP by 2025, helping economic growth.The Supreme Court recently rejected petitions challenging the mandatory E20 ethanol blending policy across petrol sales.

    The government defended the policy, stating it aids sugarcane farmers and reduces crude oil imports. Officials questioned foreign influence on India’s fuel policy decisions, asserting national interests take priority.Petitioners argued E20 fuel harms older vehicles not designed for 20% ethanol blends, risking safety and mileage. They claimed the mandate limits consumer choice and violates the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, and constitutional rights. The petition also warned about warranty and insurance issues for vehicles using E20 fuel.

    Gadkari reiterated the government’s focus on clean energy and urged industry cooperation to accelerate biofuel vehicle rollout. He also emphasized GST relief for scrappage schemes to motivate consumers to upgrade vehicles. These efforts aim to promote sustainability, reduce pollution, and support economic growth in India.
