The Supreme Court cancelled Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa’s bail in Renukaswamy’s gruesome murder case.Justices JB Pardiwala and R Mahadevan overturned the Karnataka High Court’s earlier order that granted bail.They ordered the concerned police authorities to immediately take Darshan into custody without delay.The case accuses Darshan and several associates of abducting and killing 33-year-old Renukaswamy from Chitradurga.They allegedly murdered him after he posted vulgar remarks online about actress Pavithra Gowda.

Supreme Court Slams High Court Bail Order and Warns Against VIP Treatment for Darshan
The Supreme Court criticised the Karnataka High Court for interfering in the trial process with a flawed decision.Justice Mahadevan pointed out that the bail order contained serious legal errors and lacked sound reasoning.He described the bail grant as a “mechanical exercise” that could obstruct justice and influence witnesses.Justice Pardiwala praised Justice Mahadevan for delivering a clear and well-reasoned judgment in the case.He stressed that no one, regardless of status or fame, can remain above the rule of law.
The Supreme Court also warned prison officials against giving actor Darshan any VIP treatment in custody.Photos had earlier captured Darshan sitting with coffee and a cigarette inside Bengaluru’s jail premises.Justice Pardiwala declared that such treatment would result in suspending the jail superintendent and responsible staff.The court reaffirmed that all accused individuals must receive equal treatment under India’s legal system.Officials must ensure Darshan neither enjoys special privileges nor faces mistreatment while in custody.

Renukaswamy’s father welcomed the Supreme Court’s verdict and praised it for upholding judicial accountability.He said the cancellation of Darshan’s bail restored his trust in India’s fair legal system.His family experienced deep distress when the High Court initially granted bail to the actor.He thanked the state authorities for challenging the bail and fighting for justice in his son’s case.The victim’s wife demanded that the court punish all those involved in the crime under the law.
Renukaswamy’s murder last year sent shockwaves through Karnataka’s film industry and general public.
The accused abducted him, tortured him with electric shocks, and beat him with wooden clubs.They dumped his body in a drain, and authorities recovered it the following morning.Police used bloodstains and a discarded mobile phone to identify the location and trace the suspects.They arrested Darshan, actress Pavithra Gowda, and sixteen others soon after launching the investigation.
