The Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA), representing filmmakers from various Indian film industries, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking government intervention regarding the ban on the film Dhurandhar in the Middle East. Directed by Aditya Dhar and starring Ranveer Singh, the film faced release restrictions in several Middle Eastern countries, including the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. IMPPA criticized the ban in its letter, calling it “unilateral and uncalled for,” and emphasized that it violates the freedom of expression of the film’s creators.

In a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA) appealed for intervention regarding the ban on Dhurandhar imposed by UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. The letter highlighted that the film, certified by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) with an A certificate before its December release, has become one of the biggest hits in Indian cinema. IMPPA described the ban as a suppression of the freedom of expression, as it hindered the global reach of a highly successful film.
IMPPA Appeals for Government Intervention to Lift Ban on Dhurandhar
The IMPPA has urged Prime Minister Modi and the Central Government to intervene in lifting the ban on Dhurandhar imposed by the UAE, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Saudi Arabia. In their letter, signed by IMPPA President Abhay Sinha, they requested the government to engage with authorities in these India-friendly countries and ensure that freedom of expression is upheld. Dhurandhar, a spy thriller starring Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and R Madhavan, has earned 1230 crore worldwide, making it the 4th highest-grossing Indian film ever. It also set a new benchmark by becoming the only Bollywood film to earn 800 crore net in India. The film is part of a two-part franchise, with the sequel set to release during Eid 2026.
