    The death toll from the diarrhoea outbreak caused by contaminated water in Indore reached ten today. Officials confirmed on Friday that the local drinking water supply remains severely unsafe for public consumption. Indore councillor Kamal Waghela reported two additional deaths occurring late during the Thursday night period now. Authorities have already disbursed financial compensation to families of the first eight victims of this tragedy. Laboratory analysis of water from the Narmada pipeline in Bhagirathpura found serious and dangerous fecal contamination. Officials said samples tested positive for fecal coliform and E. coli which trigger severe health issues. These specific bacteria can cause severe vomiting and dangerous diarrhoea among those who consume the water.

    Indore Water Crisis: 1,400+ Report Illness

    Indore’s Chief Medical and Health Officer said residents arrived at hospitals with vomiting and high fever. More than fourteen hundred people have suffered from this severe waterborne illness since the outbreak began. Health department teams carried out door-to-door surveys in over seventeen hundred households throughout the affected area. Medical staff screened more than eighty-five hundred residents to identify any new cases of water contamination. Doctors treated patients with mild symptoms at home while two hundred people remain in local hospitals. Several critically ill patients are currently receiving intensive care within units across the city of Indore. District officials confirmed that engineers finished all necessary repairs to the affected water pipeline yesterday morning.

    Authorities restored the water supply following a successful and thorough safety inspection by the engineering team. Officials advised residents to boil all drinking water as a necessary precaution before any daily consumption. Laboratory technicians sent fresh water samples today to confirm the safety of the restored supply line. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced an ex-gratia payment of two lakh rupees to grieving families. The state government is now formulating a new operating procedure for all drinking water infrastructure today. This new policy aims to prevent similar tragic incidents from occurring across Madhya Pradesh in future.
