Months after Bihar CM Nitish Kumar and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a massive victory in the Bihar assembly elections, the state is heading toward another political development. The 10-time chief minister, Nitish Kumar, will file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
Once he files the nomination, he will vacate the chief minister’s post, triggering a race for the top position in the state. Sources familiar with the matter said Samrat Choudhary and Nityanand Rai have emerged as the leading contenders for the next chief minister of Bihar.
Bihar CM Race: Key Contenders Emerge
Samrat Choudhary, one of the deputy chief ministers of Bihar, may move to the top post soon. This could happen after Nitish Kumar files his nomination for the Rajya Sabha.
Choudhary has played an important role in Bihar politics for years. He earlier served as the state’s Panchayati Raj Minister. He now handles the home affairs portfolio. The Bharatiya Janata Party leader is serving his second term as deputy chief minister.
Meanwhile, Nityanand Rai has also emerged as a strong contender for the chief minister’s post. Rai currently serves as Minister of State for Home Affairs in the central government.
Before joining the Centre, he served as the BJP’s Bihar state president. He also won four elections as an MLA from Hajipur.
Is Nitish Kumar’s Son Nishant Kumar in the Bihar CM Race?
Amid speculation over two National Democratic Alliance (NDA) nominees for the Rajya Sabha, senior Janata Dal (United) leader Shravan Kumar made an announcement. Two Rajya Sabha seats from Bihar will fall vacant on April 9. Candidates can file nominations on March 5.
Shravan Kumar said Nitish Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar will soon enter active politics.
Meanwhile, speculation about a leadership change in Bihar continues. Nishant Kumar may soon take on a political role. The party has not yet decided his exact responsibility.Shravan Kumar said the party will announce the decision soon. “On the eve of Holi, I want to share good news with Bihar’s people,” he said.
He added that JD(U) leaders and many young people have long demanded Nishant Kumar’s entry into politics. The party will make a formal announcement within a day or two
