A confrontation broke out in Mumbai after a woman challenged Maharashtra minister Girish Mahajan over heavy traffic caused by a BJP-backed march in the city’s Worli area. The incident happened on Tuesday when thousands of participants gathered for the rally, which slowed down traffic and created long queues of vehicles. The woman expressed anger over the disruption and questioned why the protest took place on busy public roads instead of an open ground. Her remarks quickly drew attention as the minister spoke to reporters nearby.

Mahajan later acknowledged that commuters faced inconvenience because of the large gathering. However, he said the woman used inappropriate language while confronting him about the traffic jam. According to the minister, the rally attracted around 15,000 to 20,000 women, which made congestion unavoidable. He also stated that organizers had already informed authorities and received permission for the march. Despite the disruption, he assured that the roads would clear within a short time.

The rally aimed to target the opposition after the defeat of a Constitution amendment bill in the Lok Sabha. The proposed amendment sought to speed up the implementation of 33 percent reservation for women in legislative bodies. Supporters gathered in large numbers to highlight the issue and show support for women’s representation in politics. Due to the scale of participation, traffic movement slowed down in several parts of Worli during the event.
During the confrontation, the visibly upset woman interrupted the minister and demanded an explanation for the traffic chaos. She accused the rally of blocking roads and creating problems for commuters trying to reach their destinations. According to Mahajan, the woman remained angry even after officials told her that traffic would resume within 10 to 15 minutes. He also claimed that in frustration she threw a bottle while arguing with those present at the scene.
Mahajan said he immediately apologized to the woman for the inconvenience caused to commuters. He also directed the police not to take strict action against her despite the heated exchange. The minister explained that he understood her frustration because she reportedly rushed to pick up her child. However, he still criticized the language she used during the argument and described her behavior as inappropriate.
The minister defended the rally by saying the organizers followed the approved route and complied with the required permissions. He rejected allegations of poor planning by police or claims of VIP culture affecting traffic management. According to him, large political gatherings often cause temporary disruption on busy roads. He added that such inconvenience sometimes becomes unavoidable when thousands of people participate in a march.
