Lok Sabha Adjourned Amid Opposition Protests

On Day 3 of the Monsoon session, Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya introduced the National Sports Bill (also known as the Sports Governance Bill) in the Lok Sabha. The proposed legislation seeks to bring the BCCI and 45 National Sports Federations under the oversight of a new National Sports Board. If passed, the BCCI would lose its autonomous status and require recognition from this Board. The Bill aims to enhance transparency, promote athlete-focused reforms, and ensure faster dispute resolution in Indian sports governance.

MPs Submit Impeachment Motion Against Justice Yashwant Varma; Lok Sabha Adjourned Amid Protests

A total of 145 Lok Sabha MPs and 63 Opposition members from the Rajya Sabha have submitted a memorandum demanding the impeachment of Justice Yashwant Varma under Articles 124, 217, and 218 of the Constitution. The Opposition’s continued sloganeering forced the Lok Sabha to adjourn until 4 PM, shortly after it resumed at 2 PM, while the Rajya Sabha carried on with its proceedings. The Monsoon Session includes 21 sittings over 32 days and will end on August 21. Both Houses will adjourn on August 12 and reconvene on August 18 after the Independence Day celebrations.

Kharge Questions Dhankhar’s Sudden Resignation, Seeks Clarity from Government

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday raised suspicions over Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation, urging the government to explain the reasons behind it. Kharge remarked that Dhankhar, who often defended the BJP and RSS more strongly than their own members, suddenly stepped down despite appearing healthy and articulate. “What led to his resignation? What’s the mystery behind it? Something doesn’t add up,” Kharge said, suggesting there might be more to the story than meets the eye.
