Officials framed the truce as a step toward stabilizing areas recently captured during ongoing fighting.
Ceasefire Agreement and Political Engagement
The army declared the ceasefire effective Tuesday evening and requested an SDF candidate ministry appointment. Authorities sought Kurdish integration by proposing an assistant defence minister role in Damascus talks ongoing. The SDF confirmed acceptance and pledged restraint unless opposing forces initiated attacks during the truce. Leaders emphasized political dialogue and negotiated solutions to advance stability under prior agreements already signed.

Continued Clashes and Shifting Control
After the truce began SDF sources accused allied militias of attacking Tal Baroud village area. Spokesperson Farhad Shami said artillery shelling struck Zarkan from Damascus aligned factions during late hours. He reported suicide drones and heavy gunfire hitting al Aqtan Prison near Raqqa earlier today.
These incidents raised doubts about compliance with the ceasefire terms by involved armed groups locally.
Government troops rapidly captured SDF held areas marking major territorial shifts after Assad fell recently. Interior officials said forces moved to control al Hol camp after SDF withdrawal earlier today.
The SDF retained Hasakah and Qamishli as authorities avoided entering during ceasefire to prevent clashes. The United States named Damascus its main ISIL partner replacing the SDF role amid conflict.
