Italy captain Wayne Madsen suffered a shoulder dislocation during the group-stage match against Scotland in the T20 World Cup while attempting to stop a boundary. The incident occurred in the fourth over of Scotland’s innings when Madsen dived at mid-wicket but landed awkwardly on the hard practice surface. He immediately showed signs of severe pain and had to leave the field with his arm supported in a sling, taking no further part in the match.
Madsen’s absence proved to be a major setback for Italy, who later lost the match by 73 runs. The team was already under pressure while chasing a challenging target of 208 runs and had to continue the game with one player short. The injury to their captain significantly affected Italy’s morale and overall performance during the contest.
Italy vice-captain Harry Manenti expressed concern about Madsen’s injury during the post-match interaction. He described the fall as unfortunate and emphasized Madsen’s importance as the team’s leader. Manenti also hoped that the captain would recover soon, stating that it was disappointing to see such an injury during a crucial match.

Scotland, meanwhile, dominated the game with a strong batting display. Openers George Munsey and Michael Jones provided an aggressive start, forming a record 126-run opening partnership for Scotland in T20 World Cup history. Although Grant Stewart eventually dismissed Munsey after his impressive 84-run knock, Scotland continued their momentum and posted a competitive total of 207/4, supported by Michael Leask’s quick 22 runs from just five deliveries.
Leask further strengthened Scotland’s performance by delivering an outstanding bowling spell, claiming four wickets and crushing Italy’s hopes of victory. Following the loss, Manenti admitted that the team was disappointed but remained hopeful about improving in the upcoming matches. He added that Italy aims to perform better in their next opportunity and demonstrate their potential on the global stage.
