After staying in remand for seven days, Vikram Bhatt and his wife, Shwetambari, applied for interim bail on medical grounds.

Vikram Bhatt and wife apply interim bail
A court in Udaipur remanded filmmaker Vikram Bhatt and his wife Shwetambari to judicial custody on Tuesday. In connection with an alleged ₹30 crore fraud case, rejecting their plea for interim bail on medical grounds. The court had earlier placed the couple in seven days’ police custody on December 9. Their lawyer sought temporary bail citing health issues, arguing that the accused needed medical treatment, but the court declined the request. DSP Suryaveer Singh later confirmed that the court ordered their transfer to judicial custody and directed authorities to send them to the Central Jail in Udaipur.

The ₹30 crore alleged fraud case
Police arrested Vikram Bhatt and his wife in Mumbai on December 7 and brought them to Udaipur, where they produced the couple before a court the next day. On December 9, the court remanded them to seven days’ police custody. Vikram Bhatt, his wife, and six others face allegations of defrauding Udaipur-based Dr Ajay Murdia, founder of the Indira Group of Companies, of ₹30 crore. An official told PTI that Murdia, who owns Indira IVF Hospital. Wanted to produce a biopic on his late wife and was promised returns of ₹200 crore. When the project failed to take off, Murdia approached the Bhopalpura police station in Udaipur, where police registered an FIR for cheating and other offences. Police said the FIR, lodged on November 17. Accuses the group of siphoning off over ₹30 crore by offering false assurances of film production and profits. And of committing the fraud through fake bills generated by the accused.
