Police believe that Sonam Raghuvanshi and her accomplices planned Raja Raghuvanshi’s murder even before their wedding took place. Reports indicate that Meghalaya Police suspected Sonam’s involvement several days before she surrendered in Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh. By June 3—just one day after they recovered Raja’s body from a gorge near a waterfall in Sohra, East Khasi Hills—the authorities had already confirmed her key role in what they now refer to as the ‘honeymoon murder.’
Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong stated that some accused in the murder of the Indore-based businessman have confessed, and he confirmed that Sonam Raghuvanshi is “fully involved” in the case.
Murder Plot Involving Sonam May Have Preceded the Wedding, Say Police
Police arrested all the accused from various locations—one from Madhya Pradesh and another from Uttar Pradesh. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Meghalaya Police travelled to both states to carry out the arrests. Some of the suspects confessed to the crime during questioning. Once the team apprehended Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime suspect, during her stay in Meghalaya, they confirmed her full involvement in the murder plot, according to the Deputy CM.
NDTV reported that Meghalaya Police arrested everyone involved in the plot to kill Raja Raghuvanshi, a resident of Indore, as part of their investigation, which they codenamed ‘Operation Honeymoon.’
