The Delhi Police Crime Branch arrested a man convicted of multiple murders on Saturday after he evaded capture for 15 years following a parole jump. In 2001, 19-year-old Dhirender Singh Tomar led a gang that targeted taxi drivers in Uttarakhand and the NCR, killing them and stealing their vehicles to sell across the Nepal border.

Police arrested 45-year-old Dhirender Singh Tomar in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, where he had been living with his wife under a fake identity to avoid detection. Police said Tomar had been evading arrest since 2010 after jumping a month-long parole. Authorities first arrested him in March 2001 for a murder in Delhi’s Ashok Nagar area, and he had been in and out of jail until his escape.

Police received a PCR call at Ashok Nagar police station on March 17, 2001, reporting that locals had found two unconscious men in a dump yard in Mayur Vihar. Authorities took them to Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital, where doctors declared one of them dead. DCP (Crime) Harsh Indora stated that during the investigation, the surviving victim revealed that four men had attacked him during a taxi ride from Jaipur to Delhi. Police arrested two accused, Dhirender Singh Tomar and Dilip Negi, and declared the other two, Ajay and Dheeraj, as proclaimed offenders. They later filed a chargesheet in the case.
