The Election Commission of India (ECI) will begin reviewing poll preparedness in Kerala on Thursday ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. The Commission will meet senior state officials and review arrangements related to voter lists, polling stations, security and logistics. After completing its visit, the ECI will travel to West Bengal on the night of March 8 to conduct a two-day assessment of election preparations in the state.

During its visit to Kerala, the Commission will focus on the status of electoral rolls, security planning and overall administrative preparedness for the polls. As per the schedule, the ECI will hold multiple rounds of discussions on March 9 and 10 with the state’s election machinery, district election officers, police officials and other administrative authorities to assess the readiness of polling infrastructure, deployment of security personnel and coordination among various agencies involved in the election process.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will also scrutinise voter records that judicial officers are currently adjudicating, most of which relate to discrepancies identified during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. These cases involve issues such as age mismatches with parents, irregular family linkages and other documentary inconsistencies that require verification. Senior ECI officials said the Commission will assess overall poll preparedness, including law-and-order arrangements, vulnerability mapping of sensitive areas, the readiness of district administrations and the progress of corrections in the electoral roll.

The visit forms part of a broader series of pre-election reviews that the Election Commission of India is conducting in states scheduled to hold Assembly elections later this year. An official from the poll panel said these visits help the Commission assess ground-level preparedness and identify logistical or security challenges before it formally announces the election schedule. With the completion of visits to Kerala and West Bengal, the Commission will conclude its round of field reviews in all poll-bound states.
