Hours after a speeding car crashed into a slum on West Delhi’s Pankha Road, local residents gathered to recall the terrifying incident involving cyclists. In the early hours of Thursday, a loud crash and desperate shouts jolted the jhuggi dwellers awake. Shakuntala, Phool Singh’s aunt, said, “We saw that the crash had completely destroyed Phool Singh’s jhuggi, so we rushed out. We rescued the children first, then helped his pregnant wife, Soni, who had suffered a crushed leg in the impact.
Around 3:30 am in West Delhi, a tragic accident unfolded when a 19-year-old boy allegedly lost control of his speeding car. According to police reports, he first hit two cyclists and then crashed the vehicle into a roadside hut where 30-year-old Phool Singh, a local grindstone maker and seller, was sleeping. The impact of the crash proved fatal for Singh, who died on the spot. Police apprehended the teenage driver and took him into custody. The incident has sparked outrage and concern among local residents, who are demanding stricter action against reckless driving and better safety measures in slum areas.

Locals Rescue Cyclists, Rush Victims to Hospital After Deadly West Delhi Crash
Ankit, a resident of the slum, recalled how locals reacted immediately after the crash. “We surrounded the car and pulled the driver out as people began beating him,” he said. “We quickly dragged Phool Singh and another man—the cyclist—from under the car’s tyres and rushed them to Mata Chanan Devi Hospital. Unfortunately, doctors declared both of them dead on arrival.”
