Preah Vihear is a Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva and built during the Khmer Empire.Though it primarily belongs to Cambodia, Thailand’s neighbors also revere this religious site.

    Drone Incident Triggers Fight Near Hindu Temple

    About 95 kilometers west lies the Ta Muen Thom temple, another 12th-century Hindu shrine.These temples, overshadowed by Angkor Wat, have fueled tensions between the two countries for decades.Thursday’s clashes left twelve people dead, dozens wounded, and caused mass evacuations nearby.Both sides blamed each other, but Thai sources claim Cambodian drones initiated the conflict.Attempts by Thai forces to defuse tensions failed, and heavy gunfire broke out by morning.

    The fighting began near Ta Muen Thom temple in Thailand’s Surin Province early Thursday. Cambodian troops reportedly used drones for reconnaissance close to Thai military positions.Thai soldiers responded by trying to calm the situation, but violence quickly escalated.By 08:20 local time, both sides exchanged heavy fire along the tense border area.
