    The Nepal Army announced that certain groups are exploiting the crisis and harming citizens and property. Chilling images of arson, destruction, and deaths surfaced from Kathmandu after protests toppled the Oli government.The Army imposed a nationwide curfew and warned that it would strictly punish any acts of vandalism, looting, or attacks. General Ashok Raj Sigdel, the Army Chief, urged protesters to choose peaceful dialogue over violence.General Sigdel, 58, assumed office last year and addressed the nation in a televised speech. He appealed to protesters to suspend demonstrations and engage in talks to resolve the crisis peacefully.

    Protests and Political Fallout

    The Army Chief expressed condolences for the lives lost and the property destroyed since violence erupted on September 8. He emphasized that the Nepal Army has always defended the country’s sovereignty, unity, and security throughout its history.Massive demonstrations broke out after public anger over a social media ban escalated into a broader movement against corruption. Police killed nineteen protesters during their response, which fueled public outrage and triggered even larger anti-government demonstrations across the country.Agitators accused politicians of living lavishly while ordinary Nepalese citizens suffered under harsh living conditions.

    As the unrest intensified, KP Sharma Oli resigned, and President Paudel urged citizens to remain calm and engage in dialogue. The Army secured critical locations, including Kathmandu airport and the government’s Singhdurbar secretariat.Authorities sealed the borders and enforced a curfew, allowing only ambulances and essential service vehicles to operate. Officials warned that they would punish looting, arson, and any attacks on people or property with strict action.The Army urged citizens and the media to ignore rumors and rely only on verified information from official sources.
