Defence Minister Rajnath Singh opened the Lok Sabha debate on the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor on Monday, stating that the Opposition was focusing on the wrong questions. Here’s how he addressed three key concerns raised by the Opposition regarding the attack and the military’s response.

Rajnath Deflects Jet Loss Query, Emphasizes Operation Sindoor’s Success
June 1, the Opposition has been questioning the incident after Chief of Defence Staff Anil Chouhan revealed at the Shangri-La Dialogue in Singapore that the Air Force lost fighter jets on May 7 but swiftly shifted strategy to strike significant blows on Pakistani airbases. However, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh didn’t directly answer this query. Instead, he dismissed the question itself as misplaced. He said, “In any exam, what truly matters is the result. If a student scores well, we shouldn’t worry about whether his pencil broke or he lost his pen — the focus should be on the outcome. Similarly, our forces fully achieved the objectives of Operation Sindoor, and that’s what counts.”

Focus Should Be on Victories, Not Minor Details: Rajnath to Opposition
He further stated that the Opposition’s focus on downed aircraft misses the larger picture and does not reflect the spirit of the nation. “They haven’t even asked how many Pakistani jets were taken down. The real questions should be: Did India destroy terrorist camps? Yes. Was Operation Sindoor a success? Yes. Were the masterminds behind attacks on our women brought to justice? Yes. Did our soldiers suffer any casualties? No,” he said. Singh emphasized that when the mission is significant, attention should not be diverted to minor details. “Focusing on smaller points risks overlooking the bigger achievements — like our soldiers’ morale and honour — something the Opposition is currently doing,” he added.
