Russia has launched return-only flights from Cuba to evacuate visiting citizens safely. Meanwhile, aviation authorities cited severe refuelling difficulties at Cuban airports this week. Consequently, Rossiya Airlines and Nordwind Airlines adjusted schedules to manage disruptions. Officials confirmed flights will depart Havana and Varadero directly toward Moscow. Therefore, authorities aim to ensure stranded tourists return home without delay.

According to regulators, approximately five thousand Russian tourists remain on the island. Earlier this week, tour operators warned travelers about worsening logistical challenges. Additionally, Russia’s Economic Development Ministry urged citizens to avoid Cuba temporarily. Officials linked the crisis to a United States oil blockade. As a result, jet fuel shortages disrupted commercial and charter flights.

Furthermore, Russia’s embassy in Havana coordinates closely with Aeroflot representatives. Diplomats also communicate with Cuban aviation authorities to secure departures. Meanwhile, Aeroflot announced special repatriation flights for affected citizens. In addition, Moscow plans humanitarian shipments of oil products. These measures aim to stabilize essential services across Cuba.

The Kremlin accused Washington of attempting to economically suffocate Cuba. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov discussed possible assistance for Havana. However, the fuel crisis has intensified since renewed United States sanctions. President Donald Trump approved measures targeting countries supplying oil to Cuba. Consequently, energy shortages triggered blackouts and transport service reductions nationwide.

Cuba produces only one third of its total fuel needs domestically. Therefore, the country depends heavily on foreign oil imports. Recently, airlines including Air Canada suspended flights because of shortages. Moreover, hotels, schools, and public offices reduced operations significantly. Finally, the United Nations urgently warned of potential humanitarian collapse without urgent energy supplies. Moreover, officials called for immediate international support to prevent further deterioration.
