Rajyalakshmi Yarlagadda, a 23-year-old MS graduate from Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, was found dead on November 7. Her roommates discovered her body after she fell sick with severe cough and chest pain for several days. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of her sudden death, while her grieving family in Andhra Pradesh reels from the tragedy.

Family Launches Fundraiser for Funeral, Educational Loans After US Student’s Death
Raji hailed from Karanchedu in Bapatla district and had completed her engineering degree in Vijayawada before pursuing higher studies in the United States. She recently completed her MS in computer science and was actively searching for employment opportunities after graduation, aspiring to create a better future for herself and her family.
Three days before her death, Raji informed her family that she was experiencing fatigue, cold, and persistent weakness. Her cousin, Chaitanya Yvk, launched a GoFundMe campaign seeking financial support for funeral arrangements and outstanding educational loans.

Chaitanya highlighted that Raji’s family depends on a small farmland in Karanchedu and that she dreamed of supporting her parents’ livelihood. He described her as a hopeful and determined student who wanted to improve her family’s economic situation through education and hard work.
Authorities continue medical examinations to identify the exact cause of death, as Indian media reports indicate that eleven Indian-origin students died in the US last year. Meanwhile, her family appeals to friends and well-wishers for assistance in repatriating her body and meeting funeral and travel expenses.
