CP Radhakrishnan Sworn In as 15th Vice President
CP Radhakrishnan took oath as India’s 15th Vice President at Rashtrapati Bhawan, New Delhi.
President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath of office in the presence of top dignitaries and officials.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Presidents and Vice Presidents, Union Ministers, and several Chief Ministers attended the ceremony.

CP Radhakrishnan Elected with Comfortable Majority
Radhakrishnan, NDA’s nominee, secured 452 votes against Opposition candidate B. Sudershan Reddy’s 300 votes.
Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Mody announced that 767 of 781 MPs cast their votes, a 98.2% turnout.
Out of 767 ballots, 752 were valid, lowering the majority threshold to 377 first-preference votes.
The NDA had support from 427 MPs, but 14 extra votes indicated possible cross-voting from Opposition ranks.
PM Modi Congratulates CP Radhakrishnan
Prime Minister Modi congratulated Radhakrishnan, expressing confidence in his ability to strengthen constitutional values.
He praised Radhakrishnan’s lifelong commitment to serving society and empowering the poor and marginalised communities.
Leaders across the political spectrum welcomed his victory and expressed hope for constructive parliamentary dialogue.
Dhankhar’s Resignation Preceded Election
Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned on July 21, citing medical reasons for stepping down early.
Sources suggested his resignation followed tensions with the Centre over Justice Yashwant Varma’s impeachment case.
The Vice President is elected by MPs from Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, including nominated members.
