Teacher Shot Dead During Evening Walk on AMU Campus

A teacher at a school affiliated with Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) was shot dead by unidentified assailants on the university campus on Wednesday night. The victim, Rao Danish Ali, was on his routine evening walk around 9 pm when the attack took place, university proctor Professor Mohd Wasim Ali said.

According to the proctor, Danish was walking near the Kennedy Auditorium with two colleagues when masked gunmen stopped them. The assailants briefly spoke to him and then opened fire at close range, shooting him in the head. Danish collapsed on the spot. His colleagues rushed him to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Professor Ali said the shooting occurred after Danish went to the AMU canteen for tea, which was part of his daily routine. The attackers allegedly threatened the group with pistols before firing at least three shots. Just before shooting, one of the assailants reportedly told Danish, “You don’t know me yet, now you will,” NDTV reported.

Danish had taught computer science at the ABK High School on the AMU campus for 11 years. CCTV cameras near the canteen captured parts of the incident, but darkness and fog reduced visibility, the proctor said.

Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar and other police officials reached the spot soon after the incident. Police issued an alert and formed six teams to investigate the case and track the attackers.

The SSP said police have spoken to the victim’s family members and colleagues to identify the motive. Investigators are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to trace the movement of the assailants.
