Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Tuesday urged opposition senator Jacinta Nampijinpa Price to apologise for her remarks targeting the Indian community. Price, a member of the centre-right Liberal Party, claimed that the large influx of Indians into Australia was “unsustainable” and linked it to rising living costs during recent anti-immigrant protests.
She further suggested that the Indian community’s voting preference for the Labor Party reflected their growing numbers. Her remarks triggered anger within the Indian-Australian community and even drew criticism from members of her own party, who demanded an apology.Speaking to ABC, Albanese said the comments deeply hurt Indian Australians and insisted that Price should retract her statement and apologise.

NSW Premier Chris Minns firmly declared that racist rhetoric and false divisive claims had no place in the state or the country, reaffirming solidarity with the Australian-Indian community.India’s foreign ministry also confirmed last week that it is engaging with Canberra to address the rise in anti-Indian incidents following recent protests.
