BSF said Pakistan admitted to the intrusion after 48 hours and initially refused to take back the body

BSF officials said the Pakistani Rangers took over 48 hours to acknowledge a protest note after BSF personnel shot a Pakistani intruder in Jammu’s Kathua region on Monday. The intruder, hit in the legs, died the same day.

The Rangers neither acknowledged the protest note — a routine practice — nor collected the intruder’s body during a flag meeting on Monday. They repeated the refusal during a second flag meeting on Tuesday.

Pakistani Rangers Delay Response to BSF Protest Over Kathua Intrusion

BSF officers said the Rangers finally acknowledged the note on Wednesday afternoon but still did not take back the body. “Earlier, the sector or company commander would immediately receive the protest note. This time, their personnel claimed they needed clearance from headquarters in Lahore before doing so,” an officer said.

Sources in the security establishment described the delay as “unusual and deliberate,” suggesting it could indicate a change in Pakistan’s border protocol or a reluctance to admit the infiltration attempt. The incident has added to existing tensions along the Jammu border, where BSF units have reported multiple intrusion bids in recent months.

Monday’s intrusion bid was the first reported in the Jammu region since India launched military strikes on targets within Pakistan as well as Pakistan-occupied Kashmir during Operation Sindhoor.
