To prevent future “mass agitations by vested interests,” Union Home Minister Amit Shah has reportedly directed the Bureau of Police Research & Development (BPR&D) to draft a standard operating procedure (SOP) by examining protests since Independence, with a focus on those after 1974, analyzing their causes, funding, outcomes, and hidden influencers.

Shah Orders Probe into Past Protests to Expose Funding and Hidden Networks
Acting on Amit Shah’s directions, the BPR&D under the Home Ministry is forming a team to work with state police and collect old CID case files on past protests. Shah has also instructed the agency to involve financial bodies like the Enforcement Directorate, FIU-IND, and CBDT to probe funding patterns, hidden networks, and money trails behind these agitations, aiming to develop a comprehensive framework that not only traces the roots of unrest but also strengthens preventive strategies against future movements driven by vested interests across the country.

Shah Calls for SOPs on Congregations, New Strategies to Tackle Extremism and Crime in Punjab
Home Minister Amit Shah has asked the BPR&D to study religious congregations and draft SOPs to prevent stampedes, while also directing NIA, BSF, and NCB to devise strategies against Khalistani extremism and crime in Punjab. He urged intelligence agencies to form expert teams and adopt innovative measures, including shifting jailed gangsters, to disrupt terror-crime networks and boost security. These steps aim to create a stronger preventive framework, enhance inter-agency coordination, safeguard public gatherings, and ensure effective control over extremist forces and organized crime, thereby reinforcing national security and maintaining public order in sensitive regions.
