Tejashwi Yadav slams NDA over poor condition of Purnia Medical College

Meanwhile, Bihar Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav of the RJD carried out a surprise inspection of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Purnia on the night of September 13. Sharing his observations on social media, he called the hospital’s condition a “snapshot of NDA’s 20-year-long neglect of public healthcare,” highlighting issues such as shortage of doctors, lack of basic facilities, unhygienic wards, and poor infrastructure. He further alleged that despite repeated promises of development, the government had failed to provide even minimum medical care to the people of the Seemanchal region.

questions PM Modi over NDA’s alleged neglect of healthcare in Bihar

Tejashwi Yadav alleged that the hospital, despite being designated a medical college, lacked essential facilities such as a functional ICU, a cardiology department, and an active trauma centre, while patients were forced to share beds amid poor sanitation. He claimed nurses were working at just one-fifth of the sanctioned strength, 80% of doctor posts lay vacant, and interns had gone unpaid for six months. Targeting Prime Minister Modi, Yadav asked whether he would visit the medical college during his Purnia tour or once again ignore what he termed the NDA government’s two decades of neglect in Bihar and 11 years of failure at the Centre. He further said that instead of making rhetorical claims, the Prime Minister must answer for the collapse of public healthcare, rising unemployment, and widespread corruption under the so-called double-engine government.
