    Sergio Gor said the United States and India are close to finalising a critical minerals agreement and expect to make a major announcement in the coming months. Speaking at the India Today Conclave, he said the proposed deal will secure supply chains essential for advanced manufacturing, energy systems and emerging technologies, and highlighted recent progress, including an interim trade agreement, as evidence that bilateral ties could reach historic heights.

    Gor also said the United States and India will likely deliver tangible outcomes in the coming months, reflecting strong political will from both governments to turn opportunities into concrete results. At the India Today Conclave, he added that recent developments show breakthroughs rather than setbacks in bilateral ties, and expressed confidence that the partnership can achieve historic progress and deliver results on an unprecedented scale.

    India–US partnership expanding beyond tariffs to supply chains

    Sergio Gor highlighted recent progress in United States–India ties, citing breakthroughs in trade, trust and technology, and strategic coordination, which he said reflect the direction of the bilateral partnership. Speaking about the interim trade deal, Gor said the size of both economies, the talent of their people and the strong entrepreneurial spirit in both societies create vast opportunities, adding that renewed momentum and political will are helping translate that potential into concrete outcomes. He added that the partnership between the United States and India goes beyond tariffs and market access and also focuses on securing critical resources and supply chains that will shape the future global economy.

    Gor noted that both countries announced a framework for an interim reciprocal trade agreement on February 7 and reaffirmed their political to negotiate a broader US-India Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA) to expand market access and strengthen supply chain resilience. Meanwhile, the United States will impose a reciprocal tariff rate of 18% on certain Indian goods under Executive Order 14257 issued on April 2, 2025, covering products such as textiles and apparel, leather and footwear, plastic and rubber items, organic chemicals, home décor, artisanal goods and certain machinery.
