Mrs Deshpande dominated India’s OTT viewership last week, surpassing hit shows like Stranger Things and Four More Shots Please. The Madhuri Dixit–led series claimed the top spot on domestic charts, relegating the globally popular Stranger Things Season 5 to second place. While fans worldwide analyzed the Stranger Things finale and speculated about spin-offs following its New Year’s Day conclusion, the Indian audience preferred local content. Despite its massive global popularity, the Netflix hit failed to overtake Mrs Deshpande in the Indian market.

Madhuri Dixit’s Mrs Deshpande outperforms Stranger Things S5
Ormax Media released its Indian OTT viewership data for December 22–28, naming Madhuri Dixit’s JioHotstar series Mrs Deshpande the top performer. The show features Dixit as a serial killer outsmarting the police and recorded 4.2 million views. In contrast, Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 2 garnered 3.3 million views, finishing second after its December 25 premiere.
JioHotstar’s large Indian subscriber base and a full week of streaming boosted Mrs Deshpande’s numbers over its competitors. While the Netflix series dominated globally with 30 million additional views, it trailed locally due to its mid-week release. Rounding out the top five, Single Pala (1.8M), Pharma (1.6M), and Four More Shots Please (1.3M) secured the remaining spots.

About Mrs Deshpande
Directed by Nagesh Kukunoor, Mrs Deshpande is a Hindi adaptation of the French thriller La Mante. The JioHotstar series, which premiered on December 19, also stars Priyanshu Chatterjee and Siddharth Chandekar. Set in Mumbai, the show follows the police as they seek assistance from an imprisoned serial killer after a copycat begins targeting new victims. While the series drew mixed reviews, Madhuri Dixit’s performance was widely praised, even as the pacing of the narrative attracted criticism.
The final season of Stranger Things was released in a staggered format, with the first four episodes debuting in mid-November, followed by episodes five to seven on Christmas Day, and the two-hour finale dropping on New Year’s Eve. Season 5 recorded 34.8 million views, topping global charts. With a cumulative 140 million views across all seasons, the series ranks as Netflix’s third most-watched show to date, trailing only Wednesday and Adolescence.
