Nagpur Police Act on High Court Orders to Ban Nylon Manja
Nagpur City Police have issued a strict advisory after directions from the Nagpur Bench of the Bombay High Court. The advisory imposes heavy penalties on the use, sale, and storage of banned nylon manja to protect public safety and wildlife.
Nylon manja injures and kills birds, stray animals, and two-wheeler riders every year. Taking note of repeated incidents, the High Court heard a suo motu public interest litigation (SM PIL No. 1/2021). On January 12, 2026, the court ordered authorities to strictly enforce the ban.

Flyers and Sellers Face Heavy Fines
Nagpur Police announced strict enforcement across the city. Police will fine adults ₹25,000 for flying kites with banned nylon manja. If minors violate the rule, authorities will recover the fine from parents or guardians.
Police will impose a ₹2.5 lakh penalty on vendors who sell or stock nylon manja. Defaulters must pay immediately. Authorities will issue a 15-day notice if payment is delayed. After that, officials will recover the amount as land revenue.
All collected fines will go into the Public Welfare Account, as directed by the High Court.
Police Urge Citizens to Report Violations
Police asked citizens to report the use, sale, or storage of nylon manja. Complaints can be made by dialling 112 or messaging the Nagpur Cyber Police WhatsApp helpline at 8976897698.
Officials warned that ignorance of the law will not excuse violations. The advisory aims to protect lives and ensure strict compliance with court orders.
Nagpur City Police Commissioner Ravinder Kumar Singal said police are taking continuous action against offenders. He urged citizens to report violations without fear and assured complete confidentiality.
