    An explosion in the early hours of Thursday devastated a firecracker manufacturing unit in Singhewala village, Muktsar district of Punjab, near the Haryana border. The factory, which employed many migrant workers for producing and packaging firecrackers, was severely affected by the blast. The tragic incident resulted in the death of five migrant laborers and left 29 others injured.

    The explosion, which occurred around 1 am, caused the entire factory building to collapse. Rescue teams immediately launched operations to assist the injured and recover those trapped under the debris

    Authorities believe an unspecified explosion triggered the collapse. Muktsar Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Akhil Chaudhary stated, “Initial information indicates that the blast occurred in the cracker manufacturing area for reasons yet to be determined. The building collapsed as a result, causing the casualties. Prima facie, it appears the deaths resulted from structural damage rather than a fire.”

    Lambi Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Jaspal Singh confirmed that rescue teams had recovered five bodies from the debris. They rushed 29 injured male migrant workers to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bathinda, and hospitals in Muktsar.

    The district administration swiftly mobilized emergency services and rescue teams to handle the aftermath of the blast. These brave teams tirelessly worked for several hours, carefully removed rubble and debris from the site, and focused on locating and rescuing anyone still trapped underneath. They carried out the rescue efforts despite challenging and dangerous conditions. The teams coordinated effectively to ensure a systematic response. Their dedication ultimately played a crucial role in managing the emergency situation.
