The Election Commission of India (ECI) published the draft electoral roll of UP on Tuesday after completing the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR). Following the revision, the ECI deleted around 2.89 crore voters from the state’s electoral roll. Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa said the revision reduced the total number of voters in the state from 15.44 crore to 12.55 crore.

UP Draft Electoral Roll: 2.89 Crore Voters
The Election Commission removed the names of deceased voters, accounting for around 46.23 lakh (2.99%), voters who had shifted their residence at 2.17 crore (14.06%), and duplicate entries numbering 25.46 lakh (1.65%).
Earlier, the Election Commission carried out the Special Intensive Revision in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat, where it removed 97 lakh and 74 lakh voters from the electoral rolls, respectively. The Election Commission also released the draft electoral roll after special enumeration in Assam, removing 10.56 lakh names from the list.
