Karnataka CM Seeks Wipro’s Support
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has formally reached out to Wipro founder-chairman Azim Premji, requesting his support to tackle Bengaluru’s growing traffic problems. In his detailed letter, Siddaramaiah specifically asked for permission to allow controlled vehicular movement through Wipro’s campus near the Iblur junction. He mentioned that this access would be limited, strictly regulated, and agreed upon by both parties to ensure smooth operations and maintain campus security. While making this appeal, the chief minister appreciated Wipro’s long-standing role in strengthening Karnataka’s IT ecosystem and its broader contribution to the state’s socio-economic progress. Siddaramaiah stated that collaborative efforts between the government and leading corporations like Wipro are essential for finding practical solutions to the city’s urban challenges.

Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road Faces Severe Traffic Crisis
The chief minister underlined that Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (ORR), which serves as a major IT corridor, regularly experiences severe traffic congestion, especially during peak office hours. This persistent gridlock has been affecting not just mobility but also the productivity and well-being of thousands of daily commuters. In his letter, Siddaramaiah cited assessments from traffic and urban mobility experts, who indicated that opening a passage through Wipro’s campus could potentially reduce traffic congestion on nearby ORR stretches by as much as 30 percent. He explained that such a measure could bring significant relief to employees working in the IT corridor, shorten travel times, and improve the overall urban commuting experience. Siddaramaiah emphasized that tackling traffic congestion was a priority for the state government, as it directly impacts the city’s reputation as India’s technology hub.
Collaborative Plan for a Better Bengaluru
Siddaramaiah appealed to Premji to direct his team to engage with government officials and work out a mutually acceptable plan as soon as possible. He stressed that implementing this solution could go a long way in easing bottlenecks, improving traffic flow, and making Bengaluru a more livable city for its residents. The chief minister further noted that this initiative would set an example of public-private cooperation in addressing urban challenges and building a more efficient metropolitan infrastructure. His letter comes at a time when several prominent voices in the city, including former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai and Biocon Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, have been urging the government to take immediate steps to resolve the worsening traffic situation on the Outer Ring Road. Their warnings gained momentum after online trucking platform BlackBuck announced its decision to relocate from Bellandur, citing poor commuting conditions and inadequate road infrastructure.
