Trump Lauds Modi’s Leadership and Welcomes India’s Backing on Ukraine
US President Donald Trump said on Truth Social that he had a “wonderful” phone conversation with Modi.
He praised Modi’s efforts, saying the Prime Minister was doing a “tremendous job” in leading India.
Trump specifically thanked Modi for supporting US-led efforts to end the Russia-Ukraine war peacefully.
The positive exchange between both leaders reflected mutual respect, despite simmering tensions over recent trade disputes.
Trade Negotiations Resume Amid Tariff Dispute
The United States recently imposed steep tariffs, including a 50% duty on Indian imports and Russian oil.
US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick warned India could lose access to the American market without buying US-grown corn.
For the first time since these tariffs were introduced, the two nations resumed discussions on their stalled trade negotiations.
The talks were described by Washington as “positive,” signaling a willingness to bridge differences and finalize a trade deal.
The long-term target set earlier this year aims to more than double bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030.
