India observes Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on October 31 to mark Sardar Patel’s birth anniversary. Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute at the Statue of Unity in Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar. He said Sardar Patel aimed to fully integrate Kashmir into India, just like other princely states. Modi criticized Nehru for preventing Patel’s plan, which resulted in Kashmir having a separate Constitution. He stressed that Congress’ historical decision caused decades of division and weakened national unity. Modi praised Patel’s vision of One India and emphasized creating history through decisive action. He described Patel as the Iron Man who united over 550 princely states after independence.

He recalled that Patel’s greatest joy came from serving the nation selflessly and diligently. Modi urged citizens to follow Patel’s principles and dedicate themselves to nation-building consistently. He emphasized Patel’s vision of Excellent India, prioritizing unity, discipline, and inclusive development. The Prime Minister noted Patel’s firm approach ensured governance, national stability, and India’s sovereignty. He encouraged officials and citizens to carry forward Patel’s legacy through active service. Modi said Patel transformed the ambitious idea of One India into reality after independence.
Modi reviewed the National Unity Day parade, showcasing women-led police and paramilitary contingents nationwide. Forces including BSF, CISF, ITBP, CRPF, SSB, and state police displayed discipline and coordination. Police contingents represented Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Kerala, Assam, Maharashtra, and other states. The National Cadet Corps (NCC) participated, demonstrating patriotism and dedication of young cadets. Ten decorative floats represented India’s cultural richness and celebrated the theme of Unity in Diversity. Artists performed classical dances reflecting regional heritage, highlighting national integration through culture. Modi appreciated disciplined forces and their role in maintaining national security and public safety.

Gallantry Awards and Security Forces Tribute
Parade highlights included BSF dog contingents, Gujarat Police’s horse display, and Assam motorcycle stunts. Camel contingents and camel-mounted bands performed synchronized displays during the ceremonial route. Modi honored five Shaurya Chakra awardees of CRPF and sixteen BSF gallantry medal winners. These personnel demonstrated bravery in anti-Naxal and counter-terrorism operations in Jammu and Kashmir. Tableaux from Andaman & Nicobar, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, Manipur, and Maharashtra depicted India’s diversity. The parade showcased women officers leading all contingents, reflecting empowerment in national security forces. Modi praised their dedication and contribution toward national unity and public service excellence.
The Indian Air Force conducted a fly-past under Operation Surya Kiran during the celebrations. Fighter jets, transport aircraft, and helicopters flew in precise formations, demonstrating operational readiness.
Modi lauded IAF professionalism, advanced technology, and commitment to defending national sovereignty effectively. He urged citizens to uphold Patel’s vision and dedicate themselves to serving the nation diligently.
