    Could the US Use the Baloch Terror Designation to Pressure India?


    The Trump White House has shown that it can wield nearly every lever of power, which makes the US decision to designate two Baloch groups as foreign terrorist organisations, along with its recent warming ties with Pakistan, raise an important question: could it attempt to target on the Baloch issue? While such efforts are unlikely to gain traction, even the attempt could carry repercussions, as seen during the Trudeau episode. Though still in the “realm of speculation,” experts note that the concern is not entirely unfounded.

    Experts Weigh In: Limited Impact on India but Trump’s Unpredictability Looms

    Defence and strategic analyst Sandeep Unnithan told India Today Digital that Islamabad has a history of making baseless accusations against New Delhi for supporting the Baloch, and with US–Pakistan ties improving, the terror designation of Baloch groups could become leverage against National security expert Tara Kartha, however, argued that the move itself does not directly affect India, though she cautioned that Trump’s unpredictability leaves nothing off the table; while he may suddenly shift course, experienced bureaucrats and officials in his administration prevent him from making an abrupt, arbitrary move against India.
