Later reports confirmed that head coach Gautam Gambhir was the one who suggested this strong symbolic move.
According to Telecom Asia Sport, Gambhir asked players to skip handshakes and avoid any verbal exchanges entirely.
He advised Suryakumar and the team to ignore online criticism and completely focus on winning for India.
“Cut down social media, block the noise, and remember Pahalgam while playing for India,” Gambhir reportedly said.
Gautam Gambhir Stresses Solidarity and National Pride
After the match, Gautam Gambhir spoke to the official broadcaster and echoed Suryakumar’s words strongly.
He praised the Indian Army for their successful Operation Sindoor and thanked them for their bravery.
Gambhir stressed that this act of no-handshake showed respect and solidarity with victims’ families and fellow countrymen.
He assured fans that the team would continue to give their best to make India proud.
Meanwhile, the tournament is far from over, with India and Pakistan likely to meet again soon.
