    Ganguly Shares Views On India’s Pitch Controversy

    Sourav Ganguly clarified that BCCI curators fully controlled the Eden Gardens pitch before the first Test. He stated that he never intervened in pitch decisions despite being the CAB president. Ganguly admitted the pitch quality was below expectations and did not support India’s batting strengths. He emphasized that Gautam Gambhir’s team deserved a much better playing surface for a home Test. Ganguly added that the stadium saw huge crowds who expected a fair cricketing wicket.

    Ganguly Defends Gautam Gambhir Amid Criticism

    He explained that both the coach and captain request specific pitch conditions before a match. He said Gambhir and the management had asked for the same pitch they eventually received. Sujan Mukherjee also confirmed he followed every instruction issued by the Indian team staff. Ganguly insisted that the loss should not trigger discussions about removing Gambhir from his position. He praised Gambhir and Shubman Gill for performing exceptionally during the England tour earlier.

    South Africa secured a 30-run victory and took a 1-0 series lead in Kolkata. India struggled without Shubman Gill, who missed the second innings due to a neck injury. Many experts argued that the pitch conditions significantly contributed to India’s collapse. The defeat increased scrutiny on team selection and tactical decisions under Gautam Gambhir. Ganguly, however, firmly dismissed calls for Gambhir’s removal as head coach.
