Amid ongoing uncertainty over Bangladesh’s participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup, star batter Najmul Hossain Shanto on Tuesday made it clear that the players strongly want to compete in the ICC tournament. He shared his views a day before the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is expected to officially announce its stance.
Players express strong desire to feature in T20 World Cup despite uncertainty
Shanto said the Cricket Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) has not held any formal discussions on the issue so far. Despite the lack of clarity from the board, he stressed that the players remain eager to take part in the World Cup.
He explained that CWAB members have stayed busy with matches, leaving little opportunity for discussion. Shanto also pointed out that a recent incident has mentally affected the players, making the situation particularly difficult.
BCB yet to communicate decision as Shanto and Litton highlight lack of clarity
Shanto highlighted the importance of the World Cup, calling it a rare and valuable opportunity for cricketers. He noted that such tournaments do not take place often and give players a chance to perform on the biggest stage.
Admitting that he does not know the details of the BCB’s internal discussions, Shanto reiterated that the players’ stance remains unchanged. However, he acknowledged that the final decision rests with the board, which is set to announce its verdict on Wednesday.
