Cricket Australia (CA) placed the decision-making power directly in the hands of the players, allowing them to choose whether to return to India for the final phase of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which resumes on Saturday, May 17, after a ceasefire between India and Pakistan. CA promised to fully support each player’s choice, whether they opt to participate or stay back. The board also acknowledged the unique challenges posed by the recent political tensions and assured that it would prioritize player safety while continuing to coordinate closely with the Australian Government and the BCCI.

Escalating tensions between the nuclear-armed neighbours on May 9 prompted many Australian players, coaches, and commentators to return home, leading officials to halt the competition for a week. After the BCCI announced a revised schedule of the IPL on Monday night, the Australian internationals must decide whether to return to India, weighing personal safety, professional commitments, and upcoming international fixtures, CA said in a statement released on Tuesday (May 13).
