    Microsoft Announces $17.5 Billion AI & Cloud Investment Boost in India

    Microsoft announced in a press release that it will invest US$17.5 billion in India, building on its earlier US$3 billion commitment to expand cloud and AI infrastructure in Bengaluru over the next two years. The company said this new investment will help it create the largest hyperscale presence in India, supported by new data centers and large-scale upskilling initiatives. Microsoft stated that India is at a crucial stage in its AI journey and is poised to lead with technology-driven inclusive growth and economic transformation. Highlighting this momentum, the company declared the investment as its biggest commitment in Asia—US$17.5 billion over four years. This nearly US$20 billion investment underscores India’s growing importance as a key market for global tech giants accelerating their digital infrastructure and AI capabilities.

    Global Tech Giants Accelerate Major AI Investments in India

    In October, Google CEO Sundar Pichai told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that the company will build its largest artificial intelligence hub in India, located in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Google has partnered with the Adani Group to set up this data centre and AI facility—its biggest hub outside the United States—and plans to invest $15 billion over the next five years. Amazon has also poured billions into developing data centres across India. During the same period, Prime Minister Modi met Qualcomm CEO Cristiano R. Amon to discuss India’s rapid progress in AI, innovation, and workforce skilling. Speaking at a conference in Delhi last month, the Prime Minister emphasized India’s leadership role in shaping global AI standards. He stressed the importance of ethical and human-centric AI and said the government is already working on a national AI policy.
