Delhi NCR witnessed a sudden shift in weather as heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds brought relief from the ongoing heatwave. A western disturbance triggered this change, ending the spell of extreme heat that had affected the region for the past few days. On Wednesday morning, residents woke up to dark clouds, rainfall, and thunder, which quickly cooled the atmosphere.

The rainfall, along with gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 km/h, helped bring down the temperature significantly. People across the city felt relief as the weather turned pleasant after days of uncomfortable heat and humidity. The showers not only reduced the temperature but also improved overall air conditions, making the environment more comfortable for daily activities.

The India Meteorological Department had already forecast this weather change and issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms and rain. According to the department, the western disturbance would affect Delhi and nearby regions, leading to a sharp drop in temperature. This prediction proved accurate as the sudden weather shift brought noticeable cooling across the area.

Before the rainfall, Delhi had recorded high temperatures. On Tuesday, the maximum temperature reached 39.2°C, while Monday saw the mercury rise to 42.3°C, making it one of the hottest days of April. The recent showers have now provided a much-needed break from these harsh conditions. This change highlights how quickly weather patterns can shift during this time of the year, especially due to western disturbances.

Delhi Sees Storms, Cooler Weather Ahead

The weather department expects temperatures to remain moderate on Wednesday. The maximum temperature may stay around 38°C, while the minimum could be near 27°C. Authorities have also issued alerts for thunderstorms and gusty winds, advising residents to stay cautious during sudden weather activity.

In recent days, the city had experienced unusually high night temperatures. This led to the season’s first “warm night” conditions, where the minimum temperature stayed 4.5 to 6.4 degrees above normal. At the same time, daytime temperatures had crossed or touched the 40°C mark, making conditions uncomfortable for residents.

However, the recent rainfall has brought some relief. It has not only reduced the temperature but also improved air quality in the city. The rain helped wash away pollutants, leading to cleaner air and better overall conditions. This sudden shift highlights how seasonal weather systems can quickly impact both temperature and air quality in the region.
