Oscar Piastri delivered another commanding performance on Sunday, winning the Miami Grand Prix and securing his third consecutive victory of the 2025 Formula One season. The McLaren driver overtook pole-sitter Max Verstappen on Lap 14 and never looked back, crossing the finish line with a comfortable lead.
McLaren dominated the Florida circuit with a one-two finish as Lando Norris passed Verstappen four laps after Piastri and held second place. Norris finished nearly 38 seconds ahead of George Russell, who claimed third for Mercedes. With this win—his fourth of the season—Piastri now leads the driver’s standings by 16 points over teammate Norris. He also becomes the first McLaren driver to win three races in a row since Mika Häkkinen in 1997-98.

Despite his winning streak, Piastri acknowledged areas for improvement, particularly his qualifying performance. “This weekend wasn’t my best,” he said. “The race went well, but qualifying fourth made it much harder. Winning from there isn’t something I can rely on.” Piastri honored a pre-race bet with NFL star Justin Jefferson by performing the Griddy dance after his victory. Although he admitted the dance “might need a bit of work,” Jefferson approved and encouraged him to “just keep winning.”

The Miami Grand Prix offered more than just racing action. Celebrities like Timothée Chalamet, Patrick Mahomes, and Blackpink’s Lisa attended the event. In a unique twist, drivers joined the pre-race parade in full-sized, drivable LEGO replicas of their F1 cars, built with nearly 400,000 bricks. With his Miami win, Piastri cements his status as the driver to beat in 2025 and continues to raise McLaren’s hopes for a championship-winning season.
