Canada has issued a travel advisory urging its citizens to avoid traveling to Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) and areas within 10 km of the India-Pakistan border. This warning comes in response to recent Indian airstrikes under Operation Sindoor, targeting locations in Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Punjab province in Pakistan. The advisory also mentioned possible air travel disruptions and noted that local authorities may impose further restrictions, including airspace closures.

India carried out precision strikes on terrorist infrastructure at nine sites in Pakistan and PoK in retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack two weeks ago. These were the first attacks on Pakistan’s most populous province, Punjab, since the 1971 war.

The Canadian advisory highlighted recent artillery shelling across the Line of Control (LoC), which serves as the unofficial border between India and Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir. It warned that tensions may rise quickly and the situation could worsen. On Wednesday, shelling by the Pakistan army along the LoC in J&K’s Poonch district resulted in the deaths of at least 12 civilians and one soldier, with 42 others injured, prompting emergency evacuations.

The advisory also pointed to possible disruptions in air travel and noted that authorities might implement further measures, including potential airspace closures.

India’s airstrikes in Pakistan and PoK led to the closure of 27 airports in northern India and the suspension of 25 international flight routes. In response, Canada advised its citizens to avoid travel to Jammu & Kashmir and areas within 10 km of the Pakistan border in Gujarat, Punjab, and Rajasthan, citing ongoing militant clashes, risk of terrorist attacks, and an unstable security situation. Canadians in affected areas were urged to follow local instructions, stay alert, and be ready to shelter in place.
