The 2025 IPL resumes on Saturday, May 17, with RCB facing KKR. The final is set for June 3, and the extended schedule may affect the availability of overseas players, including those from Australia.

“The England-West Indies ODI series will clash with the playoffs, with players like Rutherford, Shepherd, Buttler, and Bethell likely to feature in both. The IPL final on June 3 is a week before the World Test Championship final.”
Cricket Australia (CA) has given players the freedom to choose and pledged full support for their decisions. “Cricket Australia will support players in their individual decisions,” CA stated.
Australia prioritizes player safety and WTC prep as stars likely to skip IPL restart.
“Team management will address World Test Championship prep for players opting to play in the remaining IPL matches.“We are maintaining communication with the Australian Government and BCCI around security arrangements and safety,” CA added.
“Josh Hazlewood is unlikely to return for RCB due to a shoulder injury, and Mitchell Starc may skip the IPL. With most overseas players returning home, the short turnaround and security concerns create challenges. However, teams with fewer clashes may still target a late playoff push.”
