A senior Indian Army officer revealed on Monday that the Pakistan Army attempted a targeted strike on the Golden Temple in Amritsar during the night of May 7-8. This came shortly after Indian forces carried out precision strikes on terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The air defence system used by the Indian Army to safeguard the Golden Temple from potential attacks by Pakistan played a crucial role in intercepting and neutralizing the threat, ensuring the security of the sacred site.
Pakistan’s retaliatory attempt involved the use of drones and long-range missiles in what the Indian Army has described as a “massive air assault.” However, the Indian military successfully thwarted the attack through its robust and well-coordinated air defence grid, ensuring the safety of key locations, including religious and civilian sites.
Indian Air Defence Foils Drone and Missile Assault to Safeguard Golden Temple
According to military officials, the Golden Temple was among the main targets of this attempted strike. The swift and effective response by India’s air defence systems played a crucial role in neutralizing the threat, preventing any damage or casualties, and sending a strong message against such hostile actions.
“Knowing that the Pakistan Army does not have any legitimate targets, we anticipated it would target Indian military installations and civilian areas, including religious places. Of these, the Golden Temple appeared to be the most prominent (target). We also received credible intelligence that it was a prime target, which we had brainstormed earlier,” Major General Kartik C Seshadri, who is commanding an infantry division in Amritsar, told ANI.
