Sarabjeet Kaur, a 52-year-old Sikh woman from Punjab, went missing during a religious visit to Pakistan. She crossed the Wagah-Attari border with a jatha of over 1,900 pilgrims on November 4. The pilgrims visited historic gurdwaras to celebrate Guru Nanak Dev’s 555th birth anniversary in Pakistan. Kaur did not return with the group on November 13, causing immediate concern among Indian authorities. Pakistani immigration confirmed she did not report for exit clearance before leaving the country officially.

Conversion to Islam and Marriage
Reports claim Sarabjeet Kaur converted to Islam and adopted the name Noor after disappearance. She reportedly married Nasir Hussain, a local man from Sheikhupura, as per her nikahnama document. The Urdu marriage certificate confirms her legal marriage under Pakistani Islamic laws recently. Her family continues cooperating with Indian authorities to provide information about her prior movements. Indian and Pakistani officials are investigating whether she left voluntarily or under external pressure.
The jatha was led by Giani Kuldip Singh Gargajj, acting Jathedar of Akal Takht. They visited Gurdwara Janam Asthan, Kartarpur Sahib, and other historic gurdwaras in Punjab province. Kaur remained missing while the rest of the pilgrims returned to India on November 13. Officials are reviewing travel logs, CCTV footage, and witness accounts to reconstruct her movements. The incident highlighted risks and safety challenges for Indian citizens traveling abroad for religious visits.

Punjab Family Background and Official Response
Sarabjeet Kaur is divorced and has two sons from her former husband, Karnail Singh. Her ex-husband has been living in England for almost thirty years currently. Indian authorities contacted her village in Kapurthala to collect family and background information. Her passport was issued from Muktsar district, listing her father’s name, not her former husband. Preliminary police reports were submitted to Indian authorities requesting further action and investigation from Pakistan.
Indian authorities are coordinating with Pakistani officials to verify her nikahnama and legal status urgently. Diplomatic channels remain engaged to ensure her safety and clarify her voluntary decision to convert. Officials are also checking local accommodations, travel records, and witness accounts to locate her. The family expressed shock over her sudden conversion and marriage without prior notification or consent.
