    A freak mishap that killed a techie in Noida last weekend has exposed ignored safety warnings and an alleged police cover-up, a witness claims.A 27-year-old techie, Yuvraj Mehta, died early Saturday while returning from Gurugram after his car skidded in dense fog, broke a drain boundary and plunged into a deep, waterlogged pit at an under-construction commercial complex in Noida’s Sector 150. A 26-year-old delivery executive, a key witness besides the victim’s father, has alleged that police pressured him to avoid speaking to the media for 10 days. The case has gained momentum after reports revealed a UP Irrigation Department letter warning the Noida Authority about the need for head regulators to clear rain and drain water in the area— a project that was never implemented.

    Yuvraj Mehta died early Saturday after his car skidded in dense fog, broke a drain boundary and plunged into a deep, waterlogged pit at an under-construction commercial complex in Sector 150.Police said Mehta climbed onto the roof of the submerged car and called his father, who rushed to the spot and alerted emergency services. Although police, fire personnel, the SDRF and the NDRF reached the site soon after, darkness, thick fog and the pit’s distance from the road hampered the rescue operation.

    Authorities pulled out the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara involved in the accident on Tuesday, two days after the incident, and the National Disaster Response Force later loaded the vehicle onto a truck. The state government has formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case, and police on Tuesday arrested MZ Wiztown Planner Pvt Ltd promoter Abhay Kumar from the Sector 150 area.

    Techie death: Witness alleges police pressure

    Moninder Singh, a delivery executive and resident of Noida’s Sector 150, said police pressured him to stay away from the media for several days. Singh told HT on Tuesday that officers called him to the police station, forced him to record another video using a prepared script, and made him wait in a park near the station for over four-and-a-half hours. He alleged that three to four officers scolded him for speaking to the media and directed him to issue statements favouring the police, claiming they had entered the water and made every possible effort to rescue Yuvraj Mehta.
