Delhi Cop’s Final Call to Brother Ends in Screams Before Husband Kills Her

    Delhi

A final phone call to her brother marked the chilling last moments of a Delhi Police woman constable, police said. The call reportedly ended abruptly amid screams, following which her husband allegedly confessed to the attack. Investigators say the constable was brutally assaulted with a metal dumbbell at their home last week.

The 27-year-old policewoman, who was posted as a commando with the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, succumbed to her injuries on Tuesday at a private hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad. She had been undergoing treatment since the alleged assault. Hindustan Times had earlier reported on the incident.

    Assault at Dwarka Mor Home

The victim, identified as Kajal, was allegedly assaulted by her husband, Ankur Chaudhary (28), at their residence in Dwarka Mor in southwest Delhi, police said on Wednesday. According to senior officers quoted in an earliert, the accused is alleged to have struck her with a metal dumbbell and repeatedly banged her head against a door frame.

Police said that following the assault, Ankur allegedly contacted Kajal’s brother, Nikhil, and informed him that he had killed her. The call was made after a reported altercation between the couple over domestic disputes and dowry-related issues, officers said, citing the brother’s statement.

According to Kajal’s brother, Nikhil, the incident unfolded around 10 pm on January 22, when her husband, Ankur, called him during an argument with his sister. Nikhil said Kajal briefly took the phone to explain the situation, but the call escalated moments later.

Nikhil told that Ankur allegedly snatched the phone from her, asked him to record the call, and said he intended to kill her. He said he then heard Kajal screaming before the call was abruptly disconnected.

    Second Call, Hospitalisation and Death

About five minutes after the call disconnected, Ankur allegedly rang Nikhil again and claimed he had killed his sister, asking him to come and collect her body, the brother told Hindustan Times. Nikhil said that when he reached Delhi around midnight, Ankur’s family was already present and Kajal had been taken to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared her brain-dead due to severe head injuries. She was later shifted on January 25 to a private hospital in Ghaziabad’s Nehru Nagar, where she succumbed to her injuries around 6 am on Tuesday, police said.

Originally from Ganaur in Haryana, Kajal joined the Delhi Police as a constable in 2022 and later underwent commando training before being posted to the SWAT unit of the Special Cell, officers said. Police added that the couple, who had a love marriage in November 2023, have a one-and-a-half-year-old son. A case of attempt to murder was initially registered and Ankur Chaudhary was arrested the night of the incident and sent to judicial custody. Following Kajal’s death, the charges have been converted to murder, Special Commissioner of Police (Law and Order, Zone-2) Madhup Tiwari said.
